London

omgsh. Just found out that the Study Abroad to England is open to apply for. gahhh! the whole thing sounds fantastic...well, i'm guessing that most study abroads sound fantastic, but seeing as I've never been on one, this one sounds particularly wonderful to me. :)

anyway that wouldn't be until Fall '11, so I have to see how a few things pan out before i get too excited. ohhh the agony of waiting for the future to FREAKING GET HERE!

on another note. i finally finished a painting. this is the first one i've finished since i've come home. and that's a really sad story. especially since it's kind of pathetic. (you all be enlightened soon enough on this matter when I post a scan.) and the worst part is that its a present to my brother for his birthday (july 7th...i'm late...) He always gets me nice gifts and since i'm broke broke broke i never get him anything. so i wanted to do this nice thing...and this is what happens.

hopefully the rest of the summer will be more productive.

abstract compositions

so this guy, Goncalo Ivo, makes the greatest watercolors. he seriously inspired me, and these are the paintings that i made after doing a little artistic research on him.

Water Color Still Lifes

So over spring term I took a watercolor class, and these are some of the first things I did. I haven't done any water colors since my junior year in high school...and that was only one painting. So I'm pretty inexperienced. I think in these four still life paintings it's pretty obvious that was trying to make the medium something that it wasn't. In my more recent paintings I feel like I've succeeded in using the medium for it's watery strengths. I'll post those soon.
Until then...

Few words could open me...

...you knew them all

Going Home
Intaglio Print

Winter '09 (and '10)
Intaglio Print
(bigger than the last one, I can't remember the exact dimensions, and I don't feel like measuring.)
These were done for my intaglio class. Both were very much influenced by Radical Face songs, and the horrible time I was having at school.

Final for Ceramics

This is about a foot tall...it was supposed to be 20 inches but I wasn't paying that much attention...oooops.
Oh and it's supposed to be an 'abstracted' strawberry.
Fired twice. Glazes used: Chun green, moss green, red iron oxide. Fired at cone 6.

Organics

Ceramic strawberry. Fired at a cone 6. Glazes used: Red iron oxide, chun green.
Fired twice.

Ceramic Pod thing
Fired at cone 6. This glaze I sprayed on as opposed to brushing it on, which I prefer. Glaze was called Bark Brown...I think.
Fired twice.

Bronze

This is my bronze sculpture. He weighs about 4lbs. We made wax figures and then used them to make molds for pouring molten bronze into. The process was definitely an experience.

The first of many 3D adventures...

This piece went through a raku firing process.
It's a little weird. The color isn't quite what I was hoping for.

So apparently this is a little hard to understand. Failure on my part...I apologize.
But basically it's about building something together...you know, in the spirit of belated v-day and all. So hopefully that helps. :)

And for some reason scanning this made the red look washed out. It's a little brighter than in this image.
