"...in the time it takes for you to make love, you can break love, waste love, and throw it all away.
but all you need is faith and hope will bring a brighter day..."
these mean a lot to me. they are the start of a huge collection of ideas and a soon to be large collection of paintings. they've come to mean so much that I'm afraid to write about them/talk about them bc i'll probably sound like a fool, and that would make me sad.
but i figure i should try anyway because it does mean so much.
On my mission, the circle became an important symbol for me. it's a powerful, spiritual symbol to me. there are some obvious connotations.
First, eternity. circles are a line that never ends. they communicate the idea of continuation, and as I think of them, they communicate a continual progression. Which leads to the next point...
perfection. This is huge in my ideas. Not because these paintings are perfect, but because even as I strive to be exact, and as I dedicate the long hours to make them, there are little flaws everywhere. this is a criticism of the modern idea of perfection as being some cookie cutter shape for everyone. the criticism can be intended towards social pressures (i.e. how i should look, dress, behave), but i actually think of it in terms of the pressure i personally put on myself to be "perfect" in any way, i.e. in a worldy context, or within my own religion.
now don't get me wrong, i believe 100% in the gospel of jesus christ, as taught by prophets of his restored church (lds.org), i just think that i often misinterpret what it is that God actually wants me to be doing.
I strive to be like Christ because He is the way. But I've come to a conclusion that as I try make those decisions to follow his perfect example, that he is in fact putting me into better touch with who I actually am as the individual the God created, even when I falter all the time.
so to me, there is no cookie cutter. We are all different. and I don't think that when we reach the end of the line that being perfect will mean being all exactly the same. which lead to my third point...
completion. "perfect" in the original texts of the new testament, didn't mean perfect in the way we often think of perfect. it meant something more along the lines of "complete." is that not the most beautiful idea you've ever heard? it makes so much more sense to me that way. Christ commanded his disciples to be complete... so we just keep doing our best in this life, eventually we will become that. Even though the road is long and difficult, and will likely leave us in many instances full of painful holes and aching emptiness, if we keep trying we will become complete, because God has promised to fill us with his joy, (John 15:10-12 for the avid reader). I try to make this paintings feel full. There have been a lot of experiences to fill them.
individualism. as previously addressed, I think God wants us to be individuals, people who have learned to think for themselves, and make the best out of what blessings, talents, and gifts God has given us. and I believe that God allows for trying times in our lives in order to continue guiding us to our fullest potential.
So each circle painting I've made is unique. They have different details, patterns, intricacies, etc. Each one is it's own self, containing it's own story of what made it what it is today.
so that's my best attempt at explaining this concept.
hope ya'll enjoyed it. :)

Oh, I know it goes on, it gets old...
Coming to the sad realization that time is going to be in short supply this semester. I spent my weekend taking an online test, and doing these two paintings...my life is sad.
Here we go:

"Something is Missing" Detail
I like the little fun textures... we'll see how this holds up with the profs.
"If we were honest and both wrote a sonnet together
a sandwich with everything on it,
at least we would know that the sparks didn't glow
but we owe it to ourselves to try,
so we aim and ignite!"

Waterfalls and bottles
- These are a couple pieces I've done for my painting classes. Both are in oil which is a new medium for me, but I think I'm getting the hang of it.
Broken tertiary assignment:
15X15
Oil on Paper

This is a still life we did a value study on. We're still going to work on them....just adding a touch of color here and there.
24X24
Oil on Canvas

anyway, here in a few weeks I should have plenty more to post.

Drawing Final Project
So I posted these in order from when I did them. The ones of Lori aren't finished because I've decided to start a third one of her - just not for the final which is tomorrow. The first two were more expiremental...I was just trying to figure out what worked and what didn't...so a lot of it is what didn't work.
These are small, I can't remember the demensions exactly, but there less than 11X15 for sure. Micron Pen and Ink on Stonehenge

Hannah's turned out to be the best in my opinion. Especially because it actually looks like her.

Emily's eyes are just weird. One is huge, one looks evil. Idk. but besides that I think it turned out alright.

Design Markers = Heaven.
So we did a project about every 2 weeks in my drawing for animation class. we got scored 1-10, 10 being the best. There was always a theme that we voted on...and for the record, whatever theme I voted for rarely won. It'll be pretty apparent in some. haha.
So here it is...
Stuff for Joe's class:
So here it is...
Stuff for Joe's class:
I took out Assignments 1,2 and 10 because they were horrific.
Assignment #3 - Charly Harper
So this guy uses simple shapes to draw all sorts of stuff, mostly animals though. It's kind of cool I guess, but I wasn't very good at imitating it.

Theme: Insects
Score: 8
Assignment #4 - Design Principles
So we had to pick a sillouette of whatever we wanted as long as it was iconic and demonstrate 4 design principles.
My four principles - Asymetrical balance, contrast of scale/color, variety, focal point by isolationScore - 10. the one in the upper right hand corner is kind of washed out, but it was just a really big duck in 10% (contrast with the black).
Assignment #5
This was to work on composition and it was kind of a follow up lesson for the design one.
Theme: Me and My Imaginary Friend. (so 'me' in child form...interesting.)

This is me breaking up with my imaginary friend because I have to go join the real world. Heart breaking isn't it?
Personally, I think his metal arm is the coolest thing. ;)
Score - 9
Assignment #6 - 1 point perspective.
And thus starts the 3 weeks of agony...
Theme: Where to hide a body. (Okay, this was a sweet theme. haha.) Mine focused more on the actually death part...because it's not a very good hiding spot.

So, I always have this weird day dream about being killed in a bathtub. Don't ask, it just happens sometimes. I would not have chosen to draw a toliet in perspective if I could've helped it.
Score - 8
Assignment #7 - 2 point perspective.
So this is kind of my pride and joy of all the things I did in Joe's class.
Theme: enchanted forest structure. (Not so hot on the theme though.)

I guess the only reason its enchanted is because the trees are actually part of the building...that's kinda cool right? haha.
Score - 10
Assignment #8 - 3 point perspective.
Theme: Interstellar Monster Battle...(Yeah, no. Didn't care so much for this one either.)
But yeah, I totally owned on the spaceship part. My alien, not so much.Score - 8
(there was a #9, I didn't do it. oops!)
And that's it for joe's class... (My midterm and final should be on here somewhere...they were part this.)
